Last 23rd October 2018, the PUBLIC AUTHORITY FOR SOCIAL INSURANCE (PASI) awarded the First Edition of its Scientific Research Award, a competition on research in the field of Social Insurance which was held at the Sheraton Hotel. Muscat, Oman.
Once again, HCT staff members from the Business Studies Department, garnered the First Prize Award from the five (5) declared winners for the research competition. There are fifteen (15) and ten (10) entries for two (2) categories; Master ‘s and Doctoral Researchers Category and Undergraduates and University Student Researchers Category, respectively. The entry that toppled the other contenders from different academic institutions which are within the Master’s and Doctoral Categories are: Dr. Badriya Al Shammakhi and Dr. Lina George who are both from the Business Studies Department, Higher College of Technology. They won the first place for their research, entitled, “Extending Social Protection Coverage to Self-Employed for their Economic Development - A Study on the Social Protection of Orange Taxi Drivers in Oman”. They received the prize of OMR 5,000 and a trophy of recognition.
Moreover, Abdullah Hamoud Al Harthy, who is also one of the Business Studies student won the Third Place Award in the same competition but within the Undergraduate and University Student Researchers Category. The study is entitled “Economic and Social Impact of Occupational Injuries Among Omani Employees in the Private Sector”. The prize for the category includes OMR1,000 and a trophy of recognition, as well.
