1. ETC Conducted a Seminar-Workshop entitled "Managing Challenging Behavior in College Settings"

A seminar - workshop entitled "Managing Challenging Behavior in College" jointly organized by the Educational Technology Center and the Business Studies Department took place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 in Multi-Purpose Hall of Higher College of Technology from 1-3pm.

As part of ETC’s training needs analysis conducted last year, ETC identified that the staff needs to be equipped with knowledge in handling challenging behaviors Mrs. Rehana Al Ameer is confident that staging the activity will very well promote awareness to the cultural diversities and how it influences the ability to respond to challenging behavior. This activity was only one among the many workshops to enhance staff development. Mrs. Rehana expressed her gratitude to Dr. Imran Hameed Khan, HoD of Business Studies Department by allowing the keynote speaker Mrs. Virginia Abueva-Amorillo to conduct the said event, despite of her busy schedule.

2. ETC Conducted a Seminar on Safety and Security in the Work Environment

A seminar entitled "Safety and Security in the Work Environment" initiated by the ETC under the headship of Mrs. Rehana Al Ameer took place on Thursday, October 6, 2016 in Room 418 from 1-2pm. This activity was only one among the many workshops to enhance staff development. Keynote speaker of the event was Mr. Mike V. Medina, HSE Coordinator of the Applied Sciences Department, who is a certified health and safety practitioner (NEBOSH, Medic First Aid). The goal of the seminar was to inform and provide knowledge to all ETC staff about safety and security in the work environment keeping them safe, discussed from a risk management context. It was participated in by fifty-three ETC staff and some staff form different departments. Turn-out of the event was a success and topic was very interesting.

3. ETC Staff Training on Operational Planning Management System

In the aim to improve the Quality Management System at the ETC, the center had successfully conducted the hands-on training sessions for all ETC Staff, on the use of the Operational Planning Management System (OPMS), designed and developed in Sharepoint, on August 31, 2016, September 4 and September 5, 2016.

4. ETC Staff Awareness on HCT Institutional Accreditation

Mrs. Rehana opened the session and briefed the staff on the respective duties and responsibilities of the ETC Coordinators.

She also discussed about the ETC Council and the ETC Committees, its members and their respective Terms of Reference, and how the existing line-up of committees and membership, will be updated and revised according to the present needs of the center.

Mrs. Liwayway Castro presented the QMS Requirements (List of Required Evidences from OAAA, QAD ministry and HCT QAU), along with required file naming standards, and how these requirements are linked to the development of ETC Sharepoint Documentation.

5. Turnitin Hands-On Training for Academic Staff - Series 1

Mrs. Rehana Al-Ameer, Head of Educational Technology Center initiated the Anti-Plagiarism Software using Turnitin in coordination with the Educational Services Section in order to support one of the goals of the college which is "to provide facilities and learning resources that are effectively utilized and well managed to ensure efficient student and staff services".

6. Policy Awareness Program for ETC Staff

ETC conducted a 2-hour Policy Awareness Program on June 4 2015 in N418, which started at 10am. This is the 4th formal assembly of ETC Staff on Quality Assurance Awareness for this Academic Year.

7. QA and Policy Awareness Program for ETC Staff

ETC conducted a 2-hour QA Awareness Program on May 28, 2015 in N310, which started at 10am. This is the 3nd formal meeting on the staff awareness on Quality Assurance for this Academic Year, where the 1st session was conducted on October, 2014, during the induction program for newly joined staff and the 2nd was conducted on Jan. 22, 2015.

8. Risk Management Program: A Seminar for ETC Staff

A seminar entitled "Risk Management Program: A Seminar for ETC Staff" was conducted last March 5, 2015 under the initiative of Mrs. Rehana Al Ameer, Head of Educational Technology Center in coordination with Mrs. Zayana Al Sinawi, ETC Staff Affairs.

9. ETC Organized a Seminar on Anti-Plagiarism Software (Turnitin Academic Integrity)

Educational Technology Center organized a seminar on anti-plagiarism seminar last February 26, 2015 at Multi-Purpose Hall. The objective of the seminar is to facilitate the latest technology in learning which was initiated by Mrs. Rehana Al Ameer, HoD of ETC in coordination with Mr. Mohammed Tarawneh, Asst. Dean of Academic Affairs, assisted by Mrs. Zayana Al Sinawi.

10. ETC Conducted QA Awareness Raising Activity

The Educational Technology Center, under the leadership of Mrs. Rehana conducted an awareness raising activity for all college policies and systems, on Jan. 22, 2015 starting from 10 am onwards.

The activity was participated by the ETC Staff coming from three (3), CSS, ESS and Library. The activity aims to raise the awareness on the following policies and systems, as presented by:
1. Staff Affairs Policy - Ms. Aliya Yaqoob Al Hinai, Head of Human Resource Section
2. Health, Safety and Security Policy - Ms. Najma Al Bimani, Head of CSS
3. Plagiarism Policy and Risk Management Policy - Ms. Ma. Luisa "Imaan" Jasa, ETC Coordinator
4. Policy Management System - Mr. Indika Fernando, ESS-PMS Coordinator

11. ETC conducted a seminar entitled "Work Ethics: An Islamic Perspective"

A seminar entitled "Work Ethics: An Islamic Perspective" is presented by Ms. Badriya Al Muqbali and Ma. Luisa Jasa Loque "Imaan" to new Omani Staff under ETC department. The said seminar is a program for ETC Staff Development initiated by Mrs. Rehana Al Ameer, HoD.

With reference to the above subject and as per the responsibilities given to the College Dean in Article (9):4 of the Bylaws of Colleges of Technology, the following has been decreed:

Article 1:
Mrs. Najma Rashid Al Bimani is appointed as Acting Head of Computer Services Section.

Article 2: This decree cancels decree Number (10/2011).

Article 3: This decree is effective from its date of issue.

The Higher College of Technology (HCT) in Oman, in collaboration with Microsoft, recently announced the launch of Microsoft Live@Edu system during a ceremony at the HCT premises. With the launch of Microsoft Live@Edu, free email services and collaboration tools will be provided to more than 10,000 students.
