At the international seminar on Emerging Trends practices in management (ETPM) (ISBN -13-978-81-910561-2-9) organized by the post graduate & Research Department of commerce & corporate secretary ship of D.B.Jain College Chennai India .
The lure of entrepreneurship is undeniably strong for entrepreneurs with right reasons. Generally women entrepreneurs start their own business due to the unfavorable working condition experienced in the previous employed firm. Women entrepreneurs with courage, determination and foresight to become a successful entrepreneur, go on, take the bull by the horns and go for it
2. ELC Organized Writing Contest for Foundation Students

4. Career-Counseling Session Conducted by ITBiz Student - Officers among Advanced Foundation Students

The ITBiz student-officers conducted a career counseling session among Advanced Foundation students last 6th of November 2011 at the ELC Building from 8:30am-4pm. Information about Information Technology and Information Systems programs were the highlights of the series of discussions during the session. The student-officers also related among participants their good experiences, habits, practices, testimonies, aspirations, opportunities, and words of encouragement. Informative brochures and leaflets were distributed among participants as well.
Consequently, the ITBiz student-officers had helped their young brothers and sisters in the advanced foundation level to think and reflect about what specialization to register before letting them step on their next ladder of career.

5. ELC Co - Curricular Activities

As a culmination of the fund-raiser held on two days, i.e. the Rock band performance on 29 November, 2011 and the Open-house on the 6th of December, 2011, there was a handing over ceremony on the 7 December,2011. The ceremony was held in the MPH in the English Language Centre at 8 am. After a welcome speech by the Facilitator, Ms. Syama Menon, the Director, ELC felicitated the students of Advanced 26 who had raised the money for the Association of Early Intervention for children with special needs (AEI). Certificates were awarded to the students for their extended activity of their course project: reaching out to the community. A short 10 - minute movie made by the same group was then viewed. ELC Director then handed over the money that was collected during the two events to Mr. Hasan Moosa, Marketing Manager of AEI who thanked the students, the centre and the college for the continued effort of helping AEI.
6. Social Responsibilities in Business Studies Department

As a part of our social responsibilities, we joined Thuraya bint Mohammed Al-Said School in their "Open Day for Careers in Business" yesterday, 1 November 2011.
Ms.Sheika Al-Subhi and a student from E-business Section "Safia Al Harthi" conducted a fruitful presentation about the specialization offered in our Business Department. The students enjoyed the presentation, as they knew the differences between the fields as well as the possible careers in each specialization.
7. Business Studies Department Induction Week 2011 - 2012

The Business Studies Department has conducted its departmental induction/orientation week at the onset of the new academic year 2011-2012 for both the newly-joined staff members and students who were admitted to the Certificate and Diploma levels, respectively.
The students’ orientation programme was conducted for two days. On the first day, it highlighted the orientation to the newly-joined Certificate level students regarding the Department, the by-laws, rules and regulations and other areas of interest for the students in terms of their studies. On the second day, though this orientation is for the first two levels, but it also caters to the latter, especially those students who will be opting for their specialization. The program ended up with an interactive discussion between the students and the concerned presenters in their respective areas of specialization.
The staff induction programme has been initiated by the Head of the Department, Ms. Zallkha al Kharousi with an introduction about the Department and by providing copies of the Departmental Staff Hanbook; and explained its contents briefly to the newly-joined staff members. She elaborated further the entire Departmental planned activities for the academic year 2011-2012
8. A Seminar on "ICT Research Funding Opportunities"

In line with the Staff Development Program, a seminar entitled "ICT Research Funding Opportunities" was organized by Department of IT, on Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 at the Multi Purpose Hall, HCT. Dr. Ahmed Al Naamany, a renowned academician in ICT was invited as the Resource Speaker. The speaker emphasized the need of Research in Academic Institutions across Oman. He explained the significance of Innovation based Economy in the country. He reiterated that the need of the hour would be RFID, Self Healing Technologies, Grid Computing, AI Technologies, Biometrics etc. Audience was augmented with the information about the Regional Science Parks and Research Centers in GCC. The Research Council in Oman aims at enhancing research in Oman by providing research grants for short and mid-term projects. The speaker concluded the seminar by explaining the review process of the research proposals submitted to the Research Council, Oman. He motivated the faculty of HCT to take up research on a war-footing in keeping with the progress and vision of the country.
Dr. Ahmed Al Naamany is Associate Professor in Information Communication Technology. Dr. Naamany has contributed to more than 60 Conference and Journal papers as well as patent. He is also a recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship. His area of interests includes Computer Architecture, Computer Control, Computer Networks and Artificial Intelligence Applications.
The seminar was a boosting experience for the audience to get more involved in Research Activities. The seminar was attended by the staff of HCT. Dr. Amal Al Mujaini handed over the Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Ahmed Al Naamani.

10. Dr. Ayesha’s Article Featured in Oman Daily Observer

An article by Dr. Ayesha Begum, a lecturer in Business Studies Department of the Higher College of Technology (HCT) has been published in the Oman Daily Observer newspaper on 29th of September 2011. The article is entitled " Ethics and Human Values in the Corporate Scenario".
"Business ethics is based on broad principles of integrity, fairness and focuses on internal stakeholder issues such as product quality, customer satisfaction, employee wages and benefits, local community and environmental responsibilities and such other issues that a company can actually influence. Ethics, like democracy, is a lot easier in theory than in practice. . . "

11. HCT Members Participated in WorldSkills London 2011

- WorldSkills London 2011, the largest ever international skills Competition and careers event has drawn to a close.
- Young people from 51 countries/regions were competing to be the best of the best in their chosen skill.
- More than 200,000 people from the UK visited and were inspired by the dedication of the teams taking part in the Competition.
- WorldSkills London 2011 will be held over four days at the ExCeL London exhibition and conference centre in London's docklands from 5-8 October 2011.
