2. HCT Students Won in the 2nd Oman Skills Competition

Three (3) Information Technology students bagged top places during the 2nd Oman Skills competition which was held at Ibra College of Technology on May 8 to 12, 2010. The awardees were : Abdulaziz Al-Rashdi, 1st place in Web Design under the supervision of Mrs. Muna Al-Rahbi ; Marwa Al-RAwahi, 1st place in Network Support under the supervision of Mr.Leopoldo; and Taha Al Busafi, 2nd place in Graphic Design under the supervision of Mrs.Eman Al-Abri. These students will prepare for the coming GCC skills competition next November and later in Uk Skills competition on 2011.
The HCT Dean, Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghassani, together with IT Teachers, Mr. Leopoldo Maglalang, Mr. Talib Al-Mahrooqi, Ms. Eman Al Abri, and Ms. Muna Saif Al Rahbi attended the awarding ceremony.

Dear Friends,
This is an era of "knowledge explosion". Knowledge related to every filed under the universe is multiplying in an unprecedented manner, which no one can even predicted off. There are many ways and means for the acquisition and comprehension of these developments; but one unique way is to bring those intellectuals to one platform for a fruitful interaction and deliberation. With this unique aim in mind we are launching an IT- FORUM for the faculties of our department. Each one will get an opportunity to share the piece of information that he/she possesses and thereby get enriched by all other members of the faculty.
As a humble beginning, on 18th May 2010, at 1.30 PM in Room:N330, Dr.Ahmed Al Kindi, Head of the Department will inaugurate our forum officially.
All are requested to attend the inaugural function.

5. IT Staff and Students Took a Visit at PDO

The IT department students and staff members visited Petroleum Development of Oman L.L.C.(PDO) on 14th of April 2010 as part of students industrial visit . Mr. Mohammed Hassan Adbullah, Mr. Aajan and Mr. Alley from PDO explained regarding the key operations of PDO - Computer Centre such as planning, business applications, documentation and operation.
6. Seminar on Data Telecommunications Network Infrastructure of Bank Muscat

Networking Group of IT department has successfully conducted a seminar on "Data Telecommunication Network of Bank Muscat" on 13th April 2010 at MPH, HCT, Muscat. Mr.John Cooper DGM (eBanking, Technology, Operations) , Bank Muscat has given an overview about the Network Technologies used to achieve their business objectives. Mr Samani Bhupendra Henraj,Head of Infrastructure Services, Bank Muscat and Mr Soud Al Habsy Network Manager, Bank Muscat have presented the Network Infrastructure and the various technologies used for their banking operation.
7. Seminar on Open Source Software for HCT Students (in Arabic)

With the succeeding seminar on Free/Open Source Software (FOSS), another seminar on the same topic was performed to HCT students in 18th April 2010. The seminar was conducted in Arabic by Mr Bassam from IT Dept. ITA guests participated in Q&A session then distributed free DVDs which contain some Open source programs to audience.

Information Technology (IT) Department successfully celebrated the Women’s Day at HCT on March 7 at the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) and Auditorium at 10AM. Various activities such as competitions and presentations were held.

12. Mr. Mushtaq Wins in the 5th Oman Web Awards

Mohammed Mushtaq Ahamed Chamansha, Lecturer - Department of IT, Multimedia Group has won the first place in 5th Oman Web Awards in association with AYNA , MICROSOFT and BSA under the auspices of e-Oman.
www.globnetllc.com won the first place under personal category. Globnet LLC is an HR and Recruitment company. This web site is a completely interactive and database driven solution for the users to apply online jobs. It also has a secure control panel where the web administrator can post new jobs and view the job applications posted online for a particular position.

13. IT Lecturers Present Papers on ICAA 2010

Three (3) lecturers from IT Department presented papers during the "International Conference on Analysis and Applications" (ICAA 2010) held at Department of Mathematics and Statistics, College of Science, Sultan Qaboos University on January 24th-26th 2010. Dr. Cherian Thomas presented the paper entitled "Graphs arising from Rings-I". Also, Dr. N.Girija and Dr. Reshmy Krishnan presented the paper entitled "Analysis in Data Warehousing Using Mathematical Functions" .
