The Accounting Section's Activities for Sem1 AY2013-2014

ACTIVITY NO. 1 – Students’ Debate on “Islamic Banking Versus Conventional Banking”

The activity was a Students’ Debate on “Islamic Banking Versus Conventional Banking”. This was participated by two teams from the Accounting Specialization in all levels. It was conducted on the 31st of October 2013 held at the Business Studies Conference Room BS056 at 11:00 A.M.; whereby the Accounting staff members witnessed the event. The first team was composed of all female participants: Muna al Hatmi, Balqees Yhamdy and Budoor Al Battashi. The second team was represented by male participants: Ahmad al Amri, Adnan al Balushi and Hisham al Hinai.

At the end of the Debate, the Board of Judges which was composed of Senior Accounting lecturers declared the Second Team as the winner.

The event was first launched by the section which was quite an encouraging event for both the participating teams.

The first part of the activity was a lecture to Accounting students from Mr. Mohammed Al Fazli, a Guest Speaker from Abu Timam (Grant Thornton) which is one of Oman's leading accounting, tax and business advisory firms. It offers a full range of assurance, corporate finance, business advisory and tax services and as a member firm of Grant Thornton International, students can learn more on international expertise and methodologies on financial activities.

The activity took place last November 25, 2013 in Room N337 at 12:00 Noon where Mr. Mohammed al Fazli lectured on the topic of: Opportunities and Challenges in the Profession of Accounting and Finance”.
