Knowledge Transfer: System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) by Mr. Mohammed Ali Khalfan Al Harmali

Ian Wooler & Sandra Ward stated that “knowledge transfer is developing the right ‘knowledge system’ enables organizations to improve work practices, take better decisions; and avoid the criticism that comes from failing to learn from previous experience.”  With the previous experience of data center and to avoid any mistakes, the Data Center Team implemented the method of knowledge transfer, it is also aimed to provide smooth and continuous operation of the data center.

Mr. Mohammed Ali Khalfan Al Harmali, System Administrator conducted a knowledge transfer about System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to selected members of network team last March 1, 2018.  “SCOM is a component in the Microsoft System Center suite of enterprise management software.   It deploys, configures and manages the operations, services, devices and applications of many systems within an enterprise through a single management console.” (Rouse, 2018,18).  Mr. Mohammed discussed the other capabilities of SCOM which can be helpful with the network team such as:

·         Monitor Network Devices

·         Monitor Physical Network Routers & Switches (includes interfaces and ports)

·         Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs)

·         Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP)

·         Firewalls & Load Balancer 

Mr. Mohammed has a Master Degree in Information Management & Security and worked as Deputy Director of IT Services Department for four years in Muscat College before he joined in Educational Technology Center in 2014.  He is under the direct supervision of Mrs. Zayana Al Sinawi, Head of Computer Service Section.
