On the Job Training

General Aims of OJT

The Ministry of Manpower has initiated an eight week professional training program known as ‘On the Job Training’ to expose the students of Colleges of Technology, to a real working environment just prior to their exit from their institutions with Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Baccalaureate. The training is imparted in private companies, public sector organizations and government establishments in Oman.

  1. Demonstrate the broad role and importance of technically qualified personnel to industries and business sectors.
  2. Give students an opportunity to establish interest in industrial / commercial activities
  3. Provide work experience enabling students to apply what they learnt in the college and acquire new skills
  4. Provide foundation to prepare students to work efficiently in their jobs after the training
  5. Create two-way link between the industries/establishments and the Colleges of Technology so as to utilize the trained manpower in the progress of the country.


Objectives of OJT

  • To  provide work experience enabling students to apply what they learnt in the college and acquire new skills.
  • To give students an opportunity to establish interest in industrial/ commercial activities.
  • To provide foundation to prepare students to work efficiently in their jobs after the training.
  • To create two-way link between the industries/establishments and the Colleges of Technology so as to utilize the trained manpower in the progress of the country.

 

Why is OJT essential?

Pre-requisite for graduating students in Diploma, Higher Diploma or B. Tech.


When to do OJT?

To be done after completing all courses at exiting level.

They can also go for OJT with one/two courses by suitably registering their courses without hindrance to the OJT schedule.


What is the time duration required?

The OJT is for 8 weeks / 300 hours during which period they have to work with a supervisor in the assigned place and will be monitored by OJT/ teaching staff from the college.

 After the completion of training, they have to submit a report and do a presentation in the college to enable them for graduation.


Where to undergo training?

  • Private: Exova, Lonstor Alpha, Sohar Aluminum, Vale, PEPSI Company, Al-Rafaa Hospitals, Badr-Al-Sama, Al-Ghubra Desalination and Power company.
  • Public: Public Authority of Electricity and water, Agriculture Research station, Ministry of Environment and climate affairs.
