Theme-2: Welcoming and introduction of newly joined staff and socialization

Tuning to the Persian wisdom, as preached by Late Rumi, “When setting out on a journey do not seek advice from someone who never left home”, it is customary for an employee to have a reasonable introduction to the nature of the work and the people from which he/she can seek help. It is a well celebrated administrative fact that the new employee should be welcomed and introduced to the colleagues with a brief note on the very best qualities or skills he or she possess, because the impressions about a new employee as seen through the eyes of the peers in the starting days will have an enormous impact on the new employee's cordial relations in the future with the other members in bringing the best for the benefit of the organization. The administration and the planners at the department of applied science are following this tradition of introducing the newly joined staff in the get together events of the department. The head of the department, Dr.Mohammed Ali Oueslati introduced the newly joined staff to the gathering on his behalf and on behalf of the other members of the departmental council, Dr.Afraa Said Al-Adawi, head of section of Applied Biology, head of unit of Physics, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Nadeem, head of section of Environmental Sciences, Dr.Suad Al Kindi and head of section of Applied Chemistry, Dr.Wafa Mustafa Al Lawati.

In continuation to the theme-1 (Web link: http://www.hct.edu.om/about/the-college/news-archive/aps-yearly-gathering-121817) of the yearly staff gathering and a departmental meeting of department of applied sciences for the AY 2017-18, the following are the details about the proceedings on the welcoming and introduction of newly joined staff by the head of the department, Dr.Mohammed Ali Oueslati.

1. Dr. Amal Salim Al Rahbi, Re-joined the department after the successful completion of Doctor of Philosophy.
2. Dr. Laila Hama Al Hadabi, Re-joined the department after the successful completion of Doctor of Philosophy.
3. Dr. Omaima Hamed Al Hoqani, Re-joined the department after the successful completion of Doctor of Philosophy.
4. Ms. Nawal Saud Saif Al Amairi, joined the department as a Physics Lecturer.
5. Ms. Safiya Khalifa Said Al Abri, joined the department as a Chemistry Lecturer.
6. Mr. Maher Mohamed wasli, joined the Physics section of the department.
7. Dr. Lekha Logu Babu, joined the department as a Chemistry Lecturer.
8. Dr.Ahmed Mohamed Al Mamari, Re-joined the department after the successful completion of Doctor of Philosophy.

The reception and introduction of the staff who were either re-joined the department or newly joined became a memorable event, because of the warmth in the welcome and their immediate entry into the larger group.

Socialization at the work place is a continuous process through which every individual as an employee acquires a personal identity and also learns the norms, values, behavior, and social skills appropriate to his or her social position. Under the guidance and continuous support of the departmental committee consisting of HoD and the HoS’es, the staff development committee headed by Dr. C. Rama Chandra Prabhu is continually working to provide opportunities for each and every staff member of the department to enhance his or her social skills through formal and informal social events organized at the department throughout the academic year. The participation of the staff in these events is aiding for the reduction of differences between them and making them to develop a team spirit and harmonious work culture.

In total the welcoming and introduction of the newly joined staff was very successful at this yearly gathering event. The socialization among the staff with smiling faces and warm greetings show a stress free environment with unity in diversity at the department of applied sciences.
