The Participation of the Applied Biology Students from HCT to the Second Oman Science Festival-2019

Dr. Muzna AL-Siyabi, a Lecturer of Applied Biology and with her project students, namely: Ms. Fatema Hamood Al Rabiaya,   Ms. Ghuyoom Hamood Badawi, Ms. Zahra Khamis Al-Fahdi, Ms. Mayya Said Al-Ashkhari and Ms. Tasneem Abdullah AL-Owaidi from HCT-Applied Sciences Department participated  in the Second Oman Science Festival with the theme “The Fourth Industrial Revolution” at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center on November 4 to 8, 2019 spearheaded by the Ministry of Education under the patronage of Sheikh Al Fadhl bin Ahmed Al Harthi, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers. The event participated by almost 60 government, military and private sector institutions.   

 HCT students in the Second Oman Science Festival highlighted the significance of their project when they were interviewed by the Sultanate of Oman Television. They emphasized the project’s aimed was to determine the effect of frankincense extract on bacterial growth and on regulation of diabetes. They mentioned the impact of the utilization of naturally produced and available frankincense in Oman that might find a scientific solution to help regulate the incidence of diabetes in Oman. Aside from its medicinal value, it also generate revenue for the country’s economy.

The students expressed their happiness in this rare opportunity to exhibit their work in a national scientific forum and benefitted by improving their scientific endeavor. The students and their project lecturer expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. Ali Saif Salim Al-Harthy, the Dean of College and Acting Head of the Department of Applied Sciences for his support and kind consent to participate in this remarkable event.

 
This activity was encouraged by the college in partial realization of its major goal: To foster an environment that promotes applied research, innovation and consultancy in various fields of technology. The department of applied sciences supported this activity in order to meet the partial requirements of Goals - 4, 5, 6 & 7 of the strategic plan.
