The behaviour of individuals working in organizations can be changed through social recognition of their work. Awards act as signs of recognition and they are valued more than rewards in the  monetary form. The research findings on awards show that there is an innate natural thirst for every human for being publicly recognized and honored by the organization amidst his/her peers or co-workers. History shows that awards are presented in the form of honorary titles, medals, prizes, orders and decorations, from the time immemorial. Awards can directly motivate people and are realised as extrinsic incentives when people exert effort explicitly to win the award. Awards can also be used to indirectly motivate people and are realised as intrinsic incentives when individuals cannot or do not consciously work towards them. In either ways, awards work because they create role models, highlight the values of an organization in particular and the society at large. Awards also bring prestige to the individuals who have acted similarly without being chosen as award recipients. Realizing the benefits of awarding the employees, The Higher College of Technology initiated the “MODEL EMPLOYEE AWARDS” and are celebrating the awarding process in a big way by inviting all the employees of the HCT.

The following staff members from the department of applied sciences are awarded the role model employee awards for the academic year 2017-18 by the Deanship at the college level in a ceremony conducted from 1 pm onwards on 17-04-2018 at the auditorium.

It is noteworthy to mention that many of the Applied Sciences staff won the lucky dip at the Role model employee’s awards ceremony and had taken their gifts from the honorable dean of the college.

The Head of the Department, Dr. Mohammed Ali Oueslati along with the Head of section of Applied Biology, Dr. Afraa Said Al-Adawi, Head of section of Applied Chemistry, Dr. Wafa Mustafa Al Lawati, Head of section of Physics, Mr. Shabir Ahmed Nadeem and Head of section of Environmental Sciences, Dr. Suad Al Kindi expressed their gratitude to the honorable Dean and Assistant Deans for awarding the staff of applied sciences department and congratulated the awardees.  The awardees thanked the Deanship, HoD of Applied Sciences and the four Heads of sections for their nominations and encouragement.
