Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPE) Events - Event-1: Review of Prescriptions (Rx) in Daily Practice

Pharmacy Department organized its CPPE Event-1: Review of Prescriptions in Daily Practice, which was held on 15th – 16th of January 2018 (3.00 to 8.00 pm), at Higher College of Technology (ELC – Multipurpose Hall).

The aim of the ten hours training is to develop the skills and knowledge of pharmacy students and staff to fulfill the need of everyday pharmacy practice. The course was organized by Dr. Muna Arif Al Juma (Lecturer in Pharmacy Practice) in collaboration with the course trainers: Mr. Adnan Amur Al Qasmi and Mr. Sultan Mohammed Al Balushi (Ministry of Health). They are experienced in-practice pharmacists, who have had successfully facilitated and delivered similar CPPE training courses. This training course was attended by Pharmacy Department students, Alumni, staff and external participants (graduated pharmacists and pharmacy students from other institutes).

The course covered the topics related to:

1. Clinical assessment and review of prescriptions.

2. Patient counseling and interpersonal communication.

3. Effective utilization of medical references.

4. Educating patients on the use of medication devices, e.g. asthma inhalers, insulin pen, etc.

5. Identification and management of drug interactions.

6. Dose calculations.

The course was highly beneficial to the participants and a positive feedback (4.71/5.00) was received. Participants also indicated their desire for further CPPE courses to be offered in the future.

Pharmacy Department wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Khalid Salim Al Abri, Assistant Dean for Administration and Financial Affairs and Mr. Khalid Salim Issa Al Balushi, Director of English Language Center for providing all the support required for the smooth and successful completion of the training event.
