Pharmacy department organised a day workshop on “Medicine information system” (MIS) on Sunday 13th January, 2019 at ELC MPH from 10am – 1 pm. The facilitators were expert practice pharmacists: Badriya Al Zadjali and Bushra Al Busaidi from Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.
In the first session, they presented the MIS at SQU hospital starting with medicine formulary, Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) reporting, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, and training/education & research. They explained the methods to answer queries raised by Health Care Professionals (HCP) or patients on relevant medicine information. They elaborated the steps involved in answering queries through evidence based approaches.
In the second session, they conducted groups’ discussion through different case studies. They facilitated the groups on responding to inquiry and search for information through specific sources provided to them. It was followed by discussion and sharing of best means to search the relevant medicine information from the available sources.
The workshop was attended by pharmacy students -at advanced level- and some academic staff. It aimed to develop the skills and competency of the students in providing medicine information services in daily practice. It was also a CPD opportunity for the academic staff to get updated with the relevant pharmacy practice. The course was highly beneficial to the participants and a positive feedback (4.95/5.00) was received.
Pharmacy Department wishes to extend their gratitude to Administration and Financial Affairs for providing all the support required for the smooth and successful completion of the workshop.
