The Higher College of Technology (HCT) - Muscat Networking Academy hosted the National NetRiders Competitions last 22 May 2014 at Room N418 IT Building. The event was participated in by several Colleges of Technology (HCT, Nizwa, Salalah, and Musanna) and a private local academy; the Middle East College.
Thirty five (35) eligible students came to register for the prestigious world-wide on-line networking competition. Each student have already registered on the NetRiders website and enrolled in the TMENA 2014 CCNA NetRiders competition prior to the event. Networking lecturers, from the different Colleges acting either as mentor or coach of the participating students also acted as proctors in the competition.
The NetRiders competition exam tasks and questions will be targeted at CCNA Certification level. This event is a worldwide competition with more than 400 Networking students participating across the globe. For the TMENA region, there are around 13 countries registered to compete in the Regional NetRiders Competitions level, and one of them is the Sultanate of Oman, duly represented by HCT-Muscat, being the only registered Instructor Training Center in the region.
Each participating country will conduct and select locations for their students to compete in the NetRiders competition on the scheduled time and date. This national NetRiders will be used to identify the top male, top female and next two top students, regardless of gender, will be invited to advance in the International NetRiders Competitions in October 2014 where at least one student from TMENA will win a week study trip prize to Cisco headquarters in California in January 2015 along with all the other global International winners.
After more than a week, results of the competition had been tabulated by CISCO TMENA and the top male and female scores were announced last 1 June 2014 together with the next top two scorers who will all be advancing in the International NetRiders Competitions in October 2014. The top male score goes to Mr. Shahar Ali Hilal Al Siyabi (Musanna College of Technology) and the top female score goes to Ms. Manal Al-Balushi (Higher College of Technology). The next top two scorers are : Mr. Mahmood Al-Thohalli (Musanna College of Technology) and Ms. Tahani Khamis Juma Al-Tobi (Nizwa College of Technology).
