After bagging 2 positions in the last year’s E&Y Students’ Excellence Award, the Business Department - Accounting Section is again setting its foot for this year’s competition. The opportunity presented by one of the big four audit firms of the world, Ernst & Young is more than fulfilling. All participating students are put to various test and events which simulate the real professional world. The competition is so intense and has participation coming from the best colleges of Oman.

For this year, we resolved to win again. The section has abided by the entry requirements given by E&Y and had gone through various stages for screening out the best lot who would represent the college. The students had to face personal interviews and written tests to get an entry into it. After a laborious and vigorous selection process, the section could finalize the list which includes 10 Accounting students.

To enhance student’s awareness about the competition and to prepare them for what they would actually face, a workshop was conducted by Ms. Maha Al – Kharausi, Graduate Development Officer E&Y. The whole workshop was supervised by the HoS, Accounting section, Ms. Teresita Cedro and 4 other accounting staff Ms. Zam Zam Al Balushi, Mr. Jesus Obana, Mr. Hassan Sanadi & Ms. Sameena Begum. There were 26 students who attended the workshop. Ms. Maha has not only provided a brief insight about the competition but also prepared them for one the most difficult rounds of the competition .i.e. Personal Interview. She also emphasized on few other areas of the competition which are generally missed out by the students. The whole workshop was quite quintessential and apt in preparing the students for the interview session. Students were put to various role-play activities and were made aware of the do’s and dont’s for this session. The session ended with positive note from everyone. The competition is tentatively scheduled from 18th – 20th April, 2014 and a team of talented staff members has already engrossed in training our participating students. We hope our team of enterprising students to win that will make us proud, once again.
