The Educational Technology Center organized a seminar in Free and Open Source Tools for Remote Teaching  on April 13, 2021 through online utilizing MS Teams platform from 11:00am to 12:00pm.    

The guest speaker was Dr. Ahmed Al Maashri, He has more than 15 years teaching experience and currently  a full time  Associate Professor in Sultan Qaboos University  He won the 2020 National Award for Research in the ICT Sector awarded by Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.  He was also awarded in Best Teaching Award in 2018.  He has published numerous numbers of research in the field of Computer Engineering.  He has a doctorate degree in Computer Science and Engineering in The Pennsylvania State University in USA in 2012 and he took his Master’s Degree specialized in Information Systems at University of New South Wales in Australia in 2005.  He is an alumni of Sultan Qaboos University as he graduated his bachelor’s degree major in Electrical and Electronics  Engineering in 2002.

He discussed the following topics:

• Free Open Source Software (FOSS)
• Moodle
• FOSS Tools for Teaching & Learning, Research & Development
• Multimedia Editors (OBS, Blender, OpenShot, MiniTool Moviemaker)

During the session, the guest speaker was able to show different applications using FOSS Teaching Tools through the research work of some of his students which is beneficial to all the teachers
