A Seminar on "Fake News Detection on Social Media Related to Covid 19"

A seminar about “Fake News Detection on Social Media Related to Covid 19” was organized by Educational Technology Center, with the aim to spread awareness on how to detect fake news on social media to all students and staff across the University of Technology and Applied Sciences as well as the outside stakeholders.

The guest speaker was Dr. Anoud Bani-Hani, an Assistant Professor of Technological Innovation in Zayed University, United Arab Emirates. She is an Acting Director of the NextGen Centre and also, she is the current Chairperson of the Research Ethics Committee. She has more than ten (10) years’ experience in the academe sector as well as in research field. She took her Doctor in Engineering specialized in Computer Science at Loughborough University in United Kingdom. Also, she finished her Master’s Degree in Multimedia and Internet Computing at the same university.

The topics that was discussed during the session was the following:

  1. Social Data for Analytics and Fake News Detection
  2. Leveraging Semantic Technologies
  3. Ontology for Social Content & Context Modelling
  4. Ontology-Based Knowledge Graphs
  5. Fane-KG: Fake News Detection Knowledge Graph
  6. Cone-KG: Covid-19 News for Knowledge Graph

The session was conducted through online using Microsoft Teams Platform and it was hosted by Ms. Mahfoodha Al Farqani in coordination with Ms. Azhar Abdullah Mohammed Al Sheikh, both were ETC Staff under the supervision of Dr. Asma Al Marhubi, Head of Educational Technology Center.
